Light bulb

Light bulb. Shining mini-sun, in frost or dusty glass.

Filament, golden orange worm, turning to white. Bright. Light.

Pressed up against my face. One eye screwed up tight.

heat Searing lashes drying out my eye. Smell of burning dust.

Watch the world explode. In white, red then black

Watch the world disappear. I wrote my name

in after-images and watched them dance.

Practiced exercises I’d forgotten I’d ever learnt

Marked the passing time with forgettings

And watched my self disappear.

Pissed on electrical sockets

listened to them fizz.

Denied everything.

Under all interrogation

Denied everything.

Tell the truth

And die.

That’s why.

Light bulb. Has yours gone on with mine?

(If it hasn’t, don’t worry you’ll be fine.)
